Our Team

Established in 2007, Matthews Business Associate Services (MBA Services) is a full service boutique accounting and bookkeeping firm located on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. While specializing in grant management, audit preparation, systems design/implementation, organizational operations and bookkeeping for nonprofits; we are equally skilled in handling the bottom line needs of dynamic entrepreneurs and small to medium size profit-driven companies as well.


Our niche group focus and commitment has been the bedrock of our growth and viability for over a decade. We take pride in being well versed in accounting, the common language of business and are equally proud to speak and understand the language of business professionals; knowing full well their mission and the plans are anything but common. Kelly Matthews


After working exclusively in the nonprofit arena forover15 years, Kelly Matthews established MBAServices, LLC (www.mbaservicesllc.com) in 2007.


As owner and principal, Mrs. Matthews works directly with entrepreneurs, nonprofits and small businesses to provide a range of services impacting their fiscal structure and trajectory. She holds a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University, a BA in Communication from Seton Hill University, a BS in Accounting from New England College, and several certifications. With over 24 years of experience as a program director and finance/operations manager; Mrs. Matthews is uniquely qualified to advise on the strategic approach of addressing foundational business functions like bookkeeping/accounting, administration and marketing of small businesses executing big missions. Mrs. Matthews is a married native Washingtonian with two children and two grandchildren.

Yolanda Hampton-Matthews

Sr. Accounting Associate

With over 20 years of accounting experience in the for-profit and non-profit arenas, Yolanda has been a consultant  with MBA Services since its inception. She currently works for an educational non-profit in Washington DC and consults with MBA services as needed. Yolanda has a B.S. in accounting from the University of Maryland and a M.S. in accounting from American University. She’s also a certified personal trainer and sports nutrition coach. In her spare time she likes to work with personal training clients to help them reach their fitness and nutrition goals. She is married with two children and two grandchildren.

Stephen Pearcy

Accounting Contract Associate

A native of DC, Steve Pearcy has worked in non-profits for decades, first as a math and music teacher and over the past dozen years in finance.  He taught in high schools in Tennessee, Ohio, and Maryland and helped found a public charter school for the performing arts in DC.  He has worked with the finances and operations of two public charter schools in DC, City Arts and Prep and Washington Latin, as well as several community arts organizations, Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, Joy of Motion Dance Center, and Atlas Performing Arts Center.  He enjoys learning about organizations, solving problems, and helping organizations improve their finances and operations.  He is committed to working with organizations that make a difference.

In addition to his work with non-profits, Steve also volunteers as a board member of another charter school in DC, a keeper aide at the National Zoo, and a conservation volunteer in Costa Rica.  A trained singer, he has sung professionally at the Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap, and the Library of Congress and with the choirs of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington National Cathedral, and St. Matthews's Cathedral as well as other professional ensembles.  In addition to his work in education, finance, and music, he has also worked for the US Navy as an engineer modeling sensor systems and for Washington National Cathedral as a coordinator of arrangements for events and services.  He earned his degrees from Lafayette College and Kent State University and lives on Capitol Hill with his wife and assorted cats.

Thomas Posey

Accounting Contract Associate

With over 17 years ofaccounting experience in the nonprofit arena, Thomas has worked in the Washington D.C. metro area in various well known nonprofits such as The SEED Public Charter School of DC, Defenders of Wildlife, Bread for the World, American Council on Education, Citizens for a Sound Economy and The American Association of University Women.While working with these organizations, Thomas has established a unique understanding of the financial needs and necessary elements for success of nonprofit organizations. In addition to working with nonprofits, he is also well versed in accounting and tax preparation for individuals and small businesses as well.


As a native Washingtonian, Thomas has witnessed the importance and the need for successful businesses within  the communities they serve. That is why he continues to align his business and accounting knowledge with nonprofits, small businesses and entrepreneurs. He has a B.S. in accounting from St.Augustine’s University and is a scholar of the Diversity Executive Leadership Program (DELP) sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). He is a Washington Redskins fan and coaches little league basketball in the Washington metro area. He is married with two wonderful children.

Denai Cross

Administration/Communications Assoc.

With a career as a retail specialist, Denai works part-time in our social media department developing informative posts and timely tips to both MBA Services clients and media subscribers alike. With years of corporate training and investment under her belt from Verizon Wireless, Victoria's Secret and other retail chains, Denai has a keen sense of true customer service and satisfaction that she likewise pours into MBA Services information platforms. In addition to being a committed hard worker, Denai is dedicated mother of five year old Hayden and is pursuing her Associates Degree in Business Management.

Ian Cross

Graphic/Web Design Assoc.

With over 10 years of experience as a freelance graphic designer, Ian has provided MBA Services with striking visuals for both the website and social media accounts. He spearheaded the redesign of our site and is half of the social media management team, which provides content for our Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages. Ian is also a technical support specialist for an accounting firm in Philadelphia, PA.

Ian, a native of Washington, DC, graduated from Temple University in 2011, with a BS in Information Science and Technology. He is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and lives in Northeast Philadelphia with his wife and five year-old daughter.
